Issues identified in previous meeting (including personal development goals):
This meeting was the first scheduled appointment between myself and the supervisor (Vicky Rushin-Chape), and the session turned out to be very beneficial. A lot of important issues were discussed in the meeting, including:
- Identifying the topics that the Specification Brief should include
- Discovering how long the Specification Brief should be
- When the final version of the Project and the Project Specification should be handed in
- Identifying how often meetings between myself and Vicky will occur
- Identifying when Project Diary Entries should be made
Feedback received in previous meeting:
Alongside the topics stated above, I also discussed my initial proposition for my project. Vicky approved of the initial project idea, and gave me some useful advice that I should follow in order to successfully achieve my project goals. She recommended that I talked to members of Thornaby Indoor Bowls Club to ask them what aspects of bowls club they would like to see implemented into a website (e.g. fixtures/results details, a membership tracking system (primarily for staff of the bowls club), a section to show the results from “social events” (e.g. Bingo, Find the Joker and Tote results)). If I can receive some feedback from members at the bowls club, then this will help me develop a solution that - if it was to be launched - would be tailored based around user requirements and demands. I intend to base my website solution around the requirements and functionality that members at the bowls club would like to see implemented.
Another piece of feedback that I received in this meeting was the proportion between the results of 2nd Year and 3rd Year that will contribute towards the final grade in my degree. Vicky informed me that the proportionalities are based on a 30% (2nd Year) to 70% ratio (3rd Year), although the average grade of these proportionalities must be met or exceeded by the overall grade of the project. This piece of feedback gave me awareness that I must get a high grade from the project on order to achieve a high grade from the overall degree.
Based on the issues stated in the previous section of this diary entry, these other pieces of feedback were given:
Action taken on feedback
Due to the fact that this meeting was the first appointment between me and the supervisor, there aren’t many actions that need to be taken before the next meeting.
I will implement the following actions prior to the next meeting:
- Completion of the first Project Diary Entry, based on the topics that were discussed in today’s meeting.
o The Project Diary Entry will need to be e-mailed to Vicky Rushin-Chape for approval and clarification.
- Completion of the Project Specification Brief, used to represent an overview of what the project will achieve, how the project will achieve its purpose, why the project will be beneficial and when the project will be implemented.
o The Project Specification Brief will also need to be e-mailed to Vicky Rushin-Chape, for approval and clarification, prior to 5th December 2011.
- Commence feedback sessions with members of Thornaby Indoor Bowls Club to discover the features and topics they would like to see displayed within the proposed website.
- Start researching PHP (Hypertext Pre-Processor), so that I can successfully apply its functionality into my project solution.
Matters to discuss
In the next meeting between myself and Vicky Rushin-Chape, I will discuss the following matters:
- Which type of methodology should be used, is the SWM method suitable, or is this too basic for a final year project?
- What is the typical length of a web-related project report?
- Should all code be included as appendixes at the end of the document, or only specific web-pages?
